The aim of the project was to develop a prototype for a lightweight solar-powered vehicle, which will allow for 100% carbon emission free travelling. The product is based on a three-wheel recumbent bicycle frame (so technically a trike!), which allows for pedalling as an additional form of power.

My aim was to produce a product that was as sustainable as can be achieved, and that makes use of as much recycled, reused, and environmentally-friendly materials as possible.

The project won the National Science and Engineering Competition, and Shawn Brown now holds the title of 'UK Young Engineer of the Year'!

The Bike won the National Science and Engineering Competition! Over 50 engineers were participating, and these were narrowed down to 5 finalists. The 5 were then put into a Dragon's Den celebrity judging event, and judged on their projects and suitability for the prestigious position (as an ambassador for engineering). The results were then announced at a glitzy award ceremony, at which Lord Mandelson awarded the top prizes, and Shawn walked away with the main prize!
